Before a couple of days I discovered this discussion topic within one of the LinkedIn groups I am a member of.
“In 2010 I have decided that I want to buy and own my blog space on the internet… great idea in theory but one slight issue… I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I AM DOING!”
Here are the asked questions and my answers:
Q: Do I buy a web site or a blog (or is there a difference?
A: There is a great difference between blog based optimized marketing infrastructure and a web site.
Example: The blog content gets indexed much quicker than website content. There for ‘A blog as a website’ can be more effective. A blog as a website gives your customers and you the opportunity to get in touch by leaving comments, etc. See also the presentation below!
Q: Where do I go to buy a domain name and blog or site page?
A: Godaddy offers WordPress Blog hosting and domain name for $5 per month. The ‘Economy Plan’ should be ok for the beginning, find it here: http://www.godaddy.com/hosting/wordpress-hosting.aspx?ci=15005
Q: Is this something I can learn to do well on my own?
A: Yes. You have many great options to enhance a blog to act as great marketing hub for you. Here you can find more info about this.
Q: Would it be smarter to hire someone to do it for me?
A: In the long term it is better to learn this by your self. But if you want to shorten the learning curve and get quicker results you can also hire somebody to help you to get started and then step by step learn all of these skills when your web presence is up and running.

The Online Marketing world has seen a lot of fresh developments recently, especially in the Search Engine and the Web Analytics sphere. A lot of new and innovative services have ensured that Google has constant competition in the analytics domain also. An exciting new service called KPMRS, which we hit upon recently is doing just that. It is a perfect SEO tool that monitors your website performance on various search engines.
This service primarily lets you monitor your website Rankings on three Search Engines – Google, Bing and Yahoo (which will probably be removed from KPMRS results, after its recent deal with Microsoft. Read how would that effect your website rankings) – for the keywords of your choice. Apart from that, KPMRS has a slew of features that enable you to monitor activities in social media, track Back Links, share on Facebook and even add KPMRS widgets to your own website. They are also set to launch an iPhone application very soon, so we hear.
An interesting feature here is the Social Activity monitor that pulls the number of diggs, blog reactions, comments, links, group discussions, search results and the likes from all popular Social Media Websites over the Internet. Moreover, you can instantly check the Search Engine Rankings of any website for a keyword on the KPMRS homepage. To use other services, however, you have to register with KPMRS. Once you sign up, you have access to supplementary services such as instant rank changes updates, weekly reports and periodic newsletters.
KPMRS is an analytics compendium like none other. In fact, after using this service, we can safely say that KPMRS is the proverbial ‘chicken soup’ for webmasters, internet marketers, SEO professionals and casual online folk alike. Do check it out!
