Twitter has launched a new feature called Local Trends.

Local Trends shows your topics that are being increasingly talked about at your city and state.

Local Trends makes it possible to spread one topic across the world in real time. With Local Trends you can discover which of these topics are relevant for you and your business and position your self to solve the emerging demand potential customers in your area could have.

Local Trends could be helpful for bloggers to get local news. At the very least, it will show you what people in particular areas are interested in.

Twitter will improve the feature over time by providing more locations, languages, and data through the Twitter API. Once the features gets built up it could offer an interesting resource to learn about emerging trends and markets.
