Does your business have a blog? If not, now is the best time to start!
It doesn’t matter if your operations are small or big – blogging about it can definitely help it grow. You see, businesses all over the world have embraced social media for its ability to connect them to their market in ways never achieved before.
It’s a cheap, effective, and efficient way to market your product.
So, what can a blog do for you exactly?
1. It can increase consumer awareness of your brand. You can easily distribute information about your business to an unlimited number of people on the Internet – instantly.
2. Community/trust building. Blogs encourage conversations between you and your costumers. You will be able to easily reach out to them and address their concerns. This brings me to my next point…
3. A blog can give your company a “human” face. People can’t relate to flyers and newsletters, but a blog is something that they can interact with.
4. Improve your search engine ranking. Fresh content laden with keywords is something that Google loves! With blogs, you can make yourself more visible in searches.
5. Demonstrate your expertise in your niche. A blog can show that you know what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. It shows that you’re confident enough about your skills and methods to let other people know about them.

I’m sure you’ve heard the term “viral marketing” being bandied all over the Internet a few times by now. But what does it really mean? At its core, viral marketing is simply another way for saying “publicity”.
In the real world, a company or an individual can create publicity by dispensing information to few but influential media outfits.
Achieving publicity online however – making something go viral – is a lot more complex because what is news-worthy is decided by an unpredictable and fickle mass of people.
There is no sure-fire formula on how to make something go viral. However, you can start by creating awesome content on your blog. Post about unique people and objects.
Use current events to your advantage and if possible, stay ahead of the news. Publishing something big that’s not even off the press yet will guarantee your post viral status.
Once you have that great post, make sure that you let people know about it.
Spread the link on all major social networking sites:
Also know in advance who the influential bloggers in your niche are; you will want to tell them about your post and invite them to write about it as well.
When a person starts telling five people about your content, and then the five people each tell five more people they know and so on, you will know that you’ve been successful. It spreads like swine flue… Good luck!

Today I like to introduce you to the TradOnline Blog from Mathieu Marechal.
Mathieu Marechal is based in Paris and he is the founder and CEO of the translation company, Trad Online (www.tradonline.fr), which has offices in Paris, Bologna and Barcelona.
He is blogging in French and English about online networking, entrepreneurship and the translation industry.
The BlogAdMonkey: Tell me a little bit about your self, your background, where are you from, what are you doing for living, etc.
The BlogAdMonkey: What was your reason to start blogging?
TradOnline Blog: Basically, I started blogging to give my company’s news out to the world and give us a new opportunity at exchanging with the outside world. And since then we’ve been several (with for example one of my associate partners) at Trad Online blogging about our industry in general, the company and its latest developments but also more specific interests, such as Web 2.0, partnerships, networking sites, etc.
It was also in our mind right from the start that blogging would enable to reach out to new people and interact with them, and so far that’s happened and I’m very pleased about it.
The BlogAdMonkey: How long do you blog?
TradOnline Blog: I’ve been blogging for about 2 years (www.tradonline.fr/blog/), and I try to post at least every few days, but sometimes, and many bloggers surely experience the same issue, things get so hectic with work that I have to postpone the posting of new articles.
The BlogAdMonkey: What are the topics you blog about?
TradOnline Blog: Business in general, the translation industry, online networking platforms (like linkedin, Viadeo, Xing, plaxo, etc), Web 2.0 startups + a little bit of miscellaneous
The BlogAdMonkey: Which blogging platform do you use?
TradOnline Blog: WordPress
So far, we’re pretty happy with it!
The BlogAdMonkey: How do you promote your blog?
TradOnline Blog: Well first of all, I try to keep the content worth reading, so I don’t post if I don’t have something of a least minimal interest to say, which I feel is in a way a first step to auto-promoting a blog.
Other than that our blog has been submitted to major search engines and to blog-specific directories, we also communicate about its existence on the numerous networking sites that I and my team are on, we also include it in some of email signatures, etc. We don’t have any SEM activity though to drive traffic to the blog (not yet! Maybe soon).
The BlogAdMonkey: What is the post on your blog that has had the most traffic in the last 12 months?
TradOnline Blog: It was a post about a new French law, http://www.tradonline.fr/blog/?p=184 which was read about 500 times, it was a big news item for a few weeks and I think we gained from the article being written are the right time and offering further info to the ongoing debate.
The BlogAdMonkey: Where did the traffic mainly come from?
TradOnline Blog: Surprisingly not only from France, although this was a very “French oriented” post. We have traffic from a little bit everywhere in the world, although mainly from France and neighboring countries where our presence and visibility are the strongest.
The BlogAdMonkey: Did you do anything extra to market or promote this post or did it just happen organically?
TradOnline Blog: All of traffic is organic, we haven’t yet launched any post-specific communication except as a relay to press releases etc. So our 500 visitors for this post came thru Google and other search engines
The BlogAdMonkey: What can we as bloggers learn from the success of this post?
TradOnline Blog: Give regular interesting content and your blog will be visible in search engines when people look for content related to what you’re saying on your blog
Thanks for taking the time to interview and all the best to you and your readers
To find out more about us, please feel free to visit us at www.tradonline.fr or on linkedin : www.linkedin.com/in/tradonline
Great thanks to you Mathieu from TradOnline Blog for taking the time to do this interview.
